                     Convention and Visitor’s Bureau
Executive Director
 
The Executive Director serves as the CEO of the Oconee County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (CVB). The position reports to the Executive Director of the Oconee Alliance and its board of directors. The CVB Executive Director is responsible for all operations of the CVB including: strategic vision, sales and marketing, budgeting and finance, public relations and tourism industry relations.
 
Supervision Responsibilities:
The CVB Executive Director supervises all full and part time staff, along with volunteers.
 
Work Performed:
  • Oversee the establishment and operation of the Oconee County CVB
  • Develop, monitor and modify the CVB’s strategic vision
  • Communicate with stakeholders including funding partners, lodging industry and tourism industry
  • Create and implement a public relations strategy with the local news media and travel writers
  • Oversee the establishment, operation and staffing of an Oconee County CVB Visitor’s Center
  • Develop an annual budget and measurable objectives
  • Create and implement an advertising and marketing plan, including print and web advertising, a web site and fulfillment of visitor inquiries
  • Create and implement a group sales plan
  • Develop CVB publications including a Visitor Guide, Visitor Map and Group Sales publications
  • Represent the CVB in the community
  • Other duties as necessary
 
Partial Listing of Minimal Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Travel and Tourism Administration, Marketing, or related field
  • Experience in CVB, hotel, convention, or tourism related work
  • Demonstrated experience in the start up of a CVB
  • Considerable knowledge of tourism industry practices and procedures
  • Considerable knowledge of public relations, group marketing and sales
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to direct and supervise staff and volunteers
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, stakeholders and the public
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare presentations and reports
  • Excellent work history and attendance record
  • Possess or obtain a South Carolina Driver's License and have an excellent driving record
  • Reside in Oconee County within 6 months from 1st day on the job
